Sometimes People Drive Me Crazy...vent (Long)

so, this happened fri, but i can't stop thinking about it! i work at a retail bakery/catering business, we do just about everything. anyhoo, this lady orders this western themed cake. she has an invite, but decides she doesn't want the exact invitation on the cake, just a hat, boot, and lasso surrounding the greeting. good enough. she was a little overbearing about the whole thing, so i knew i better do a good job on it. well, i do the cake, i think it's cute, one of my better cakes. well, she comes to pick it up. when she walks in, one of the other employees is putting up a new order board, since our other one broke, so he's banging on the wall behind the cakes. which is shaking it a little, but nothing to worry about. she tells him to stop, and tells the owner(who is watching him do it, ps) that she needs to tell him to stop. she says we're watching it, and they are fine. she's the boss, and i'm the decorator, and we both agree there is no harm to the cakes. well, she keeps on about it, and the guy to satisfy her stops. haven't even got the the cake part. the cashier opens the cake, and says "oh how cute". well, lady starts picking at the cactus on the cake. i had made it spikey, you know, like a cactus, well, she didn't like that. and she says there is brown icing on the black writing. it was were my tip had dug into the icing a bit and little white was on the black, COMPLETELY UNNOTICEABLE BY ANYONE, except her. i didn't even notice it when i wrote it. she then procedes to tell me that i looks like no time was spent on the cake, it looked like it was slapped together and the she had gotten other more complicated cakes from us, and that this was "just a sheet cake", and she expected it to be pristine. she was so condesending in her tone. that was about as pristine as i get. you cna see my pictures, which are as pristine as i get, and i think that is pretty darn pristine. well, i told her yes ma'm, i had spent a good amount of time on the cake (see above), and that i was sorry, and i would try to fix the writing. so i took it to the back scraped it with a toothpick a little, and rung her up. i charged her full price because there was NOTHING wrong with the cake, i did exactly what she wanted, i even drew a picture on her order of what she wanted. if someone is disastified i will give them the cake, usually, but not this time. i should've taken a picture of it, but oh well. i just needed a vent.
i HONESTLY beleive that there are people out there looking for a deal.. there are TONS of people who will find ANY little flaw, even if its unnoticable and make a huge deal out of it! i think its just there way of trying to save a dollar... but its SOOOO wrong! i think ur cake sounds VERY nice.. and i sure hope she felt stupid when she got home and realized how nice it was...
crazy people sometimes
I dread these kinds of people! UGH! So sorry to hear about your experience! I hope you let it go like water off a duck's back. You have to- because it is very clear from looking at your cakes that this is all about her, not you! I think that some people get so stressed about things like birthday parties that they are like a walking time bomb on party day. I bet there are people out there that think because you do a job for them they have the right to treat you like that...like you are a subordinate or something. ![]()
