Hi all,
As you can see in my profile, I live in (actually near) Buffalo, NY. That storm we just got was unbelievable!!!! To see just about whole trees laying in limbs on the ground is undescribable!!! What a mess!!! Our back yard took a hard hit - our pool, trampoline, dog kennel and fire pit all got trashed - but at least my family and pets are all just fine. We also lost about six full grown trees - the huge old maple in our back yard is what trashed everything else. We finally had our power restored this morning after having none since around 12:15 am Friday the 13th. Luckily we had a generator to run our sump pump so our basement did not flood and our refrigerator so that our food is good. We even hooked up a light at night so that we weren't completely in the dark. We also had heat because we have a vent free fireplace (I love that thing). We also have the greatest neighbors in the world here!!!! Everyone helped everyone!!!
Now the sad part - not everyone around here was quite so lucky. Three people died, including the husband of one of my co-workers. Many, many people are still without power and so many of those do not have heat. Many have no way to cook food or to even get anywhere to get food. There are still so many businesses closed due to no power.
There are also those who do not have insurance coverage for their losses.
Please pray for those who have not been as fortunate as others. Pray that there are no more deaths caused as a result and that power is quickly restored to those without it. They are saying some areas can take up to another week to get power back on.
Thanks!!
Teresa
*BIG HUGZ* to you!! My prayers are with you all in NY.
prayers go out to you! We had a very similar situation in Kansas City probably 3 or 4 years ago....a freak ice storm....I still remember lying in my bed hearing all the snaping and cracking as the trees were falling all around me (literally)......one knocked my power line down and I was without power for 10 days....I lost the contents of my fridge, freezer and was terrified that my house was going to catch fire since the power line looked like it was barely attached at the house. I stayed at my house because I wanted to be there if the pipes burst or a fire started...but I nearly froze...I rememeber it being 40 inside the house and going to sleep with clothes, coats, hats gloves and shoes on and standing in the bathroom with the hot water running just to warm up (gas hot water heater still worked)........but just as you said......I was extremely lucky. Hugs to you and your community.
I'm in NYC and we have had cool weather--around 50 degrees--and sunny. Thank God you and yours were not hurt. You can always replace things.
My heart goes out to your neighbors and co-workers who were not as fortunate. I will certainly pray for you all.
Hang tough!!
I'm so sorry for what you're going through.
I can feel your pain a little because we had a horrendous ice storm a couple days before Christmas a few years ago. We were without power for over a week, and I remember hearing about people dying, too. You're in my thoughts.
Thank you all for your kind thoughts and prayers.
gpe - WOW!!! If you had waited you would have waited a LONG time on the interstate. It completely closed down. That is amazing - and the way I believe - no coincidence. You were not meant to be here for the storm.
Thanks again!!
Teresa
