I made my FIL a cake for his b-day about 2 wks ago I go over last weekendto help them move and my step grand mother in law (she lives w/my inlaws) goes to me my cake was great by the way???? icon_eek.gif What??? i looked at her like she had three heads and said what cake? Her reply was my birthday cake! HUH? I never knew it was her b-day. My responce was oh ok i guess i'll make u one. I went home later and make a small 6" french vanilla cake with bc and gave it to her the next day. I called today to ask how it was. She said oh sorry I'm on a diet I didn't eat it. WHAT tapedshut.gificon_evil.gif . I was dumbfounded she asked for this cake and then never ate it I did'nt bother to ask what she did with it, probebly fed it to the dogs. I am so mad who asks for a cake then doesn't eat it and goes on a diet after i told her i would make it and bring it the next day? I swear some people are so rude.

Is she related to my in laws? Sounds sooo like something they would pull. Sometimes I really wish we could choose the family we marry into.

Sounds to me like she is old too, sometimes old people do that even when they're in you own family. icon_wink.gif

I know it. My family does crap like call me at 10pm on Friday asking for a cake for Sat. Or they call during a storm and ask if I could move my car out from under the car port so they can put theirs there! tapedshut.gif Then they come in and take food from the fridge like our house is the damn grocery store! And don't get me started on my FIL starting his building projects on our house without asking first. icon_evil.giftapedshut.gificon_mad.gif I swear some people!

During the big ice storm of 1998 I went home to KY to wait out the power companies. The night before I was suppose to return to NY my great aunt called me crying for a small cake, french vanilla with buttercream, said she just had to have one of my cakes. Even though I was trying to get packed and leaving early the next morning, I went to store, bought everything, made the cake, put some simple decoration on it and delivered to aunt...she met me at the door with a fork!! Less than 3 weeks later she died. As much hassle as it was, I don't regret for a second doing that cake for her. It was the best way I could have let her know that I loved her. Don't be mad, just know that she may not acknowledge your kindness but you know you did it and don't ever regret going out of your way to be good to anyone. Chalk it up to earning another feather in your wings...imagine how beautiful they'll be from all the acts of kindness you do. And I'll bet she did eat it. Old people love sweets, if she's like most of the ones I know or have known, she hid that cake for just her...that may be way she didn't acknowledge having it, guilty pleasure...

I'm feeling your pain. I am this very moment mixing batter for for my new grandfather in law's birthday party Friday at 4. I got the "Oh, by the way..." phone call not 10 minutes ago. Irregardless of her reaction or even motivation for the entire incident, you did the right thing and I'm sure your cake was smashing!

I'm wondering, by what you said, if she thought the first cake was her birthday cake. It rather sounds like it...

I'm with 7yyrt, it sounds to me like she thought she already HAD her birthday cake...could your FIL have 'given' her HIS cake?

no we had a party for my FIL and she didn't eat that cake either. She made a comment about how I forgot her birthday again just after her comment about the cake.
