What should I use to attach pre-made gum paste decorations to a buttercream cake? Would a dab of fondant work (from a fondant writing pen)?

I'm not sure, so here's a bump!

I either use a dab of BC or royal icing.

How heavy are the pieces you are attaching?

You could melt a small piece of white chocolate and attach with a dab if they are just on the top of the cake. If they are on the sides and if the flowers have wires, you can wrap the wire tightly in saran wrap and push it into the cake. Or I have heard of others dipping the wires into melted white chocolate, letting it set up and then sliding them into the cake.

The flowers aren't that heavy (1/4" in size), and they don't have wires. I plan on attaching them to the side of the cake.
