I need to make a carved white cake this weekend. I was wondering what is your favorite recipe or what works best for this. I have made the Wasc cake and like it but want to try something different. I am thinking of the King Arthur cake but don't know if it will carve well. ANy suggestions.... and while we are at it I also need a carvable chocolate cake as well. I would like scratch cakes but don't mind mixes either. Thanks for any help!
I've seen several white cake favorites listed here, such as WBH white cake, Vanilla Butter Cake from The Mermaid Bakery, Sylvia Weinstock's Classic Yellow Cake (ok not white), and indeed the King Arthur Cake. However I have no clue if any of them carve well, I don't know the first thing about carving cakes.
However I did come across this link http://www.cakecentral.com/cake_recipe-1972-Durable-Cake-for-3D-and-Wedding-Cakes.html Have you tried searching the forums using "carve" and "white" in the query (search all terms)? That's how I found the above link.
I know I'm not much help but hoping my post will give you a bump to get you some more help??
edited to add: did you catch this one re: chocolate? I was just killing time online and came across it http://forum.cakecentral.com/cake-decorating-ftopict-462913.html
Thanks ceshell! I did a seach and came across a couple threads. I had wanted to try the King Arthur recipe because I hear it is tasty but I don't know how it will carve. I did read that the WBH is dense so I think that is the one I will attempt. I also stumbled across Collette's chocolate cake recipe so will try that one for the carved cake next weekend! Wish me luck!
You're welcome for what little help I could offer
. I did notice another thread that said that "the addition of sour cream to any recipe adds density" (at least I don't think I gave you that link, could have sworn I found it after I'd posted), I wonder if you could alter the KAF recipe as such??
LOL, what am I telling you this for, I already said I don't know the first thing about carving cakes!! ![]()
Good luck!
