Hi

I've been asked to do a 1st birthday cake for twin boys.

The mum would like two cakes on one cake board, but that's as far as we've got... she'd like some ideas. I can't think of any!

I did suggest two parcels with loop bows on top - one could be in white with a blue bow and the other in blue with a white bow. But I'm not sure she's taken with that idea.

I work with sugarpaste (fondant), not buttercream (in case that makes any difference to any ideas????)

Thanks in advance for any help, advice and suggestions!

Suzanne

I have twin boys myself and always just do one cake. The only thing i can think of is that i remember seeing a care bears cake in the wilton book that had two round cakes with a rainbow connecting them and they were decorated like clouds and sky and just had some care bears on them. They were pretty though. Sorry i couldn't be of more help.

Does she have any particular decorations or colors that she is using for the party for the boys? I know when I do a cake for 1st birthdays, usually I do one main cake and then individual cakes decorated like the main cake for the birthday boy or girl. But if she really likes the idea of two cakes on one board, I'd say try to narrow her down on colors or themes or things the boys might like. If they like animals, maybe you could make two cakes with different animals (barnyard animals or zoo animals) and make a little scene on the board with grass, etc. It would be fun to make a little jungle animal theme cake and maybe to connect the cakes make a little vine of sorts with two monkeys hanging from it holding a Happy 1st Birthday sign. Or if they aren't really into anything maybe just do some fun fondant designs on the cake with blues, yellows, greens or even a "little prince" sort of theme.
