My nephew's 3rd bday is this weekend and he wants a Cars cake. My sister had mentioned that she had little Cars figures that she could put on the cake when I first talked to her about doing this a couple months ago. I talked to her today and she says she doesn't think they're in good enough condition to put on the cake anymore and she mentioned a cake that looks like Lightning McQueen. I told her that I don't have a car pan (either the Cars one or the cruiser) but that if she was willing to give me $10 I could go buy it (thought it was a good deal, since it would involve a special trip 45 minutes one way to get it). She said "Ummmm....I'll think about it and get back to you later today." Did I mention that she hasn't even offered to pay for materials or anything? $10 wouldn't even get her a Walmart cake for 30 people! icon_mad.gif I'm about 5 minutes from telling her she can buy a cake!

Anyway, I know you can carve the cake but I have no idea how to about doing that. If I'm going to do it, I'd like to do it 3-D (opposed to the ones that lay flat like the character pan). Ideas?

Or does anyone have any ideas how to do a Cars cake without figurines or the car pan?

There's a car's cake in my pictures that might be an option for you. It was carved, but was much easier than trying to carve a car I think. It's a 9x13 single layer, but you could do double and get enough servings. I also did cupcakes too.

If you are making the cake for free then you get to do whatever you want in that theme. : ) That's my new rule anyway.

If she want's something specific then she pays.
Simple as that. : )
