Got a call from a caterer who got my name from a friend. I can't get any ideas from him because he doesn't make cakes. He just wants an egagement cake for 70 people and wants something middle eastern for the couple. I have absolutely NO idea and since I don't get to talk to the couple directly I am at a loss!

Unfortunately I can't talk to them. I really screwed myself up with this one. Doing a favor for a referral from a good customer.....He is a caterer and initially called and just wanted a cake for an engagement party for 60. I told him he could get something pretty for 2.00 per serving (because he is 'reselling' it with his catering services and is adding on his own percentage apparently). After he met with the couple and gave them the quote he emails me and says they wanting something 'WOW' that they have 'never seen before' in pink and white that reflects their middle eastern heritage all in buttercream. Good lord! Something pretty is not the same price as "wow, never been seen before"! But now I feel like I am stuck because he has already priced it with the couple. I won't do it again but I just need to get through this. I am way over booked for this weekend as it is. The pictures are great. More along the lines of the colors and vibrant design I was thinking until he told me they wanted it to be pink and white. That sounds more romantic than colorful middle eastern doesn't it? And I am leaning towards "wow, and never seen before" would be not so traditional? I can't talk to the couple because he is the go between and doesn't allow us to talk. I am giving myself a headache!!

hmm this is a tough one. Here is link to a palestinanin (sp?) tile maker. There are some great idea there that you can draw from. I am visualising a mosica tile cake. Do a choclate transfer of one of the tiles you've chosen in the white and pink that they want then crack it and place it on the cake in a mosaic fashion. That would give it the wow factor for sure.

you could do this one...the tree of life.

you may have to alter the colors a bit but still incorporate the pink and white. Perhaps white base over the whole cake to look like "mortar" in your mosiac. Then do the edges in pink..or change the main color of the design (blue) to pink..i dunno but I think the mosaic would be super cool and would totally work for their heritage as tiles are something they are quite famous for.

Here is a beautiful cake done by a fellow cc'er. Perhaps you can change the fan shaped piping to the Nile Lily or orchid and some other shapes or symbols from that region.

Good Luck & post pics when you done.

Thanks guys! I just finished delivering it. I appreciate all the help and ideas. I sort of stuck with the pink as a base idea but made it more of the rosey pink luster dust and then added some bronze and purple with the pink luster dust over to soften it. I am not sure if they liked it or not. The caterer was just very 'matter of fact' about it and told me where to set it. I also ended up using MMF because it was the only way I could figure to get the beautiful sheen I was sort of seeing as a them in the tyles and textile fabrics. Honestly, I have worried myelf to death over it and was just done being worried. They will like it or not and for the 140.00 price they should be happy with the deal I think! I haven't downloaded it from my camera yet but will this evening and will post it!
