Witches Hat Cake - Need Some Suggestions

Not sure about a few things - I baked the pointy part of the hat in the candlelit Christmas tree (standup) pan. It came with a heating core; however, did not say to fill the core with batter - so I have a tree cake that is partially hollow. I was wondering if I should fill it to give the hat a bit of substance and make it more stable. I thought of buttercream icing, but it is quite a cavity - goes 5.5" into a 9.5" high cake (the part closest to the top of the tree is 1.5" in diameter-the part on the bottom of the tree is 2.5" in diameter). I just filled the core form with water - it yielded 1-1/3 cups. Then I considered royal icing but thought the people who got the cake (it is a donation) might be a little freaked and not understand what was going on when they cut into it. My last thought was to make the cake ball mixture out of my cut away scraps (plenty) and fill it with that. How does that sound?
I kind of froze this part of the cake and shaped it - still needs some fine tuning - wound up with the bottom being approximately 6" in diameter. Was planning to put this on or partially in a 10" round. Thought about torting the 10", putting my filling in, then cutting a 6" circle out of the top before putting it on top of the filling - then setting the pointy part into that? Does that make any sense?
Appreciate any suggestions. Thanks in advance.
I think the cake ball mixture would work, and definitely give the cake an interesting filling! From what you have described the hole is too big to fill with frosting.
Just had another thought...not sure if this would work...not familiar with the pan! But what about putting a sugar (pointy) ice cream cone in the center and filling with some sort of candy! Kind of like a "hidden treat" inside the cake? I wouldn't even have such thing on hand, but sometimes little problems can become very inventive with a little thought!
