Frosting 3-D

There is probably a post about this, but I don't have the time to sift through all of them.

How would I frost a 3-D figure, like the sports ball with buttercream? How do you get the frosting around the figure, like down at the bottom?

Thanks for any help.

I usually do my 3D cakes with star tip if i'm using buttercream. I think it's the easiest. icon_smile.gif

For the 3D ball, I hold it upside down and ice/star the bottom third of it....then carefully set it down where I want it and finish icing it from there.

For anything else, just a combination of using round/star tips and a small spatula is how I do it.
