I am very new to the cake decorating scene (having only made two) but already I adore it! Want to make my mum an Owl cake for her up and coming birthday... But cannot find anything with instructions! (I definitely need help on the shaping of the cake!)
Would love some help!

My photos has my first ever cake if you're interested icon_smile.gif Basic... but cute!

I think you need to bake 5 layers of cake, and then for shaping you can do as oval... cover with buttercream an with fondant you can cut out in leaves shape, a lot of that for feathers... I think one time Duff in his program Ice Cakes did an Owl Cake, I was in his web site but I can't find that photo....

Welcome briew!!!

If you go to this website, click under "the cakes" then click on "not so traditional" and scroll down to the name "Erica" this may give you an idea on how to approach an owl cake. It seems to be a basic shape with more of an emphasis on detail. Good luck and be sure to post pics!

you could make a small owl out of cupcakes to sit on another cake. i have one in my photos sitting next to the cauldron. very easy to do.
