I am thinking about buying an air brush and don't know where to start. Any input would be great. I would like to keep costs down as I do not do cakes for a living, but do get about 6-10 orders a month.

Thanks!

I'm looking also, and have been watching the forums, the Airmaster by Kopykake was the one that I had sort of thought of getting, it apparantly is more expensive but worth it. (That is the thought that I came up with watching the forums). I am looking forward to your replies!

I just got the American Cake Decorating Magazine in the mail yesterday and they are offering one in there for $199. I thought that was a good price.

*Kiddicakes* - where did you order your airmaster?? right from Kopykakes?? or is there a Canadian dealer?? while I'm asking.....for your other supplies, do you have a major supplier in Alberta, or do you have to order from back east or the US??

Wow! Thanks for the replies, I didn't get any emails that there were replies. I'm not a fan of the wilton sprays, I want to be able to use it for large and small projects and would like to be able use s wider variety of colors.

I just ordered and received the AirMaster from Kopy Kake. I haven't used it yet and have never airbrushed before. I have been told this was the best one to get. I have a class scheduled next Sunday to learn how to use it and can't wait! Will let you know. Mine was about $225.00 from Kopy Kake but ordered my progector from there and love it and their service is wonderful.

Go with the airmaster.

I too just received the AirMaster from KopyKake. I love using it. I have no previous experience with airbrushing, but I'm not doing too bad for a newbie. Can't wait to get more proficient with it though. icon_smile.gif

Does anyone have any of the airbrushes not made for cakes...are they ok to use on food products?

I think this is fine. The only thing you want to be careful of is the gun. If it's been used for paint then you'd need a separate gun for food purposes.

You'd also be able to do your own french manicures and sunless tanning if you got a separate gun. : )

I have a real basic Badger airbrush. It is made for any kind of use according to the seller. The only thing that matters is that you only use the correct type of coloring in it. I have never had any trouble with it and have been using it since March of this year. I just did a bunch of fall leaves and a cupcake cake with it, but the BEST part is doing luster dust or super pearl...you get done in a heartbeat.

I bought it new and paid less than $90 for it. I didn't want to invest a ton of money b/c I wasn't sure how much I would use it, but now I love it and would never be without it!!!

msauer--where did you get your airbrush from? I was hoping not to creep up to the $200 mark and your badger sounds like it may be what I would want.

I just went through this about a month ago. I bought the airmaster by kopycake and I really like it. It makes gumpaste flowers a little easier, and it allows me to color my cakes without hand breaking kneading and dying. I really like it. I don't know how it compares to others but here are the drawbacks to the airmaster:

Its loud, it shakes when operating (so I put it on the chair when airbrushing at my table so the table doesnt vibrate) and you really need to be diligent about cleaning the brush, etc - which can be annoying.

schmoop:

Believe it or not...ebay! I watched all the airbrush auctions for about a month until I found a good deal.

I believe it...I get my best deals on Ebay and was wondering if that is where I should look. Thanks!
