I have to make spongebob in a couple weeks. i was browsing and saw one standing up. has anyone ever made one that way before? i think it would be cool and hopefully cheaper so i don't have to pay for the pan too. any ideas? TIA

I'm not sure how to do the standing up one, but you can always make one easily without a pan - I have one in my photos that was super easy - and I've seen lots of other ones too. Good luck, Spongebob is a fun one to do!

I made the standing up one. I wanted my daughter's cake to be unique. I used a regular pan but did have to make the base from wood. You have to make a stand that is the board and legs and the actual base for the cake. I used styrofoam under the board where his pants are and the arms are dowel screwed in to the board. Transporting was scary. (I wished I had screwed some dowels into his board.) We had way to much cake for the 15 kids who were at the party. Everything was buttercream icing from the "Cake Sculpture" book by Roland A. Winbeckler. Best book I every bought for cake decorating. Good luck with your SpongeBob!
