Can you paint on a crusted buttercream like you can w/ diluted gel colors on fondant? I'm way over my head (undercharged to boot) on a cake for this weekend. I hadn't mentioned fondant when she ordered and besides I don't have any LOL. But now my design is changing from my original idea and I'm wondering if painting on BC can be done?

Well, I can't say that it would work under all circumstances, but I have some practice buttercream roses I air dried for couple of days and I just tried it. I didn't have a problem. I dipped the brush directly into the gel and applied it with a very tiny brush. To my surprise the rose did not dissolve but remained dry. I was always curious about it. Hope this helps!! thumbs_up.gif

Yup! Absolutely! In my photos there is a cappuccino cup that I did and it was painted with color gels thinned down with vodka. As with fondant, use a good quality brush for no streaking, but in the case of this cake, I wanted the streaky look.

Your capuccino cup came out great, misseyk! I've never thought to do this before - oh the wheels are turning...!
