I have just been asked to do my first official order - and it is a wedding cake OMG never done one of those before. She has asked that it be 2 tier stacked with fondant covered (beautiful that is all I like to work with). I am wondering what size cakes. She wants them both the be square and is not interested in having one to keep - basic backyard wedding with a bbq.

Also wondering how much to charge - it is very basic just covered in fondant with a boarder and ribbon around the edges. She is going to have fresh gerberas on the top as decoration.

Please help - thanks

I might not be much help since I haven't had to do a wedding cake yet. I think on here depending on head count 10" & 8" cakes are popular. The prices look as to be around $2.00 a slice. I hope this is right. icon_redface.gif

I'm about to make my first wedding cake too!!

it is 2 tier round mud cake sizes will be 10" and 7" covered in mmf with silver painted gumpaste swirls attached with some burgundy gumpaste ribbon roses on top and around the edges. it will also have some ribbon around it with a bow at the back. and dusted in luster dust

i asked the other day on cc if $250.00 was a reasonably price, because this is what i quoted the bride and some cc'ers said it was while others said it should be worth more.

i live in a small town so i took this into consideration and i am happy to do it at this price (this time as it is my first).

hope this healps you decide your price

call around to some local bakeries in your area to get a feel for what the average fee is for something like that. in my area it is $2.75 and that is not including fondant. i think all the bakers in my area are scared of fondant and most brides are afraid of fondant. but lucky for you to get one who wants it!!!
