I am working on just my second cake (I'm taking stage-by-stage pics that if all goes well I'll post when I am done). It's the Wilton Baby Buggy and I am doing it in pink and green. I made the cake last night using a doctored mix and it seems to have turned out well and I made the buttercream, so that tonight I just have to ice it. I popped the icing into the fridge and this morning it was hard. My question is how long should I take it out to "thaw" or soften up, before trying to work with it this evening? Thanks!

I would take it out about 30 minutes before you plan to decorate, make sure to re-whip it. I'm sure your cake will turn out great.

You could take it out in the afternoon and leave it sit at room temperature fully covered. OR you could just pop it in the microwave at half power and warm it up! Either way! I have done both! It really doesn't take that long at room temp either!

Take it out a couple of hours before you want to use it (maybe around noon if your decorating this evening). It will just need to come up to room temp to be able to use. You'll still want to stir it up some with a spatula before using, just to make sure it's softened all the way through.
