I was in Big Lots yesterday afternoon looking for halloween decor and wandered down the food aisle. I saw something that I'd never seen before - 3lb bags of Duncan Hines Premium Mix for special cakes. I read the bag (like a flour bag) and it said the whole mix would fill a full sheet cake and it also gave measurements for other size cakes. You just added water.
Has anyone ever seen this or used it?? It was white cake mix and looked like it was for bakers. Is this something old? I tried searching the net for a pic but can't find what I saw. It was only $3 but I was a bit scared to try it. ![]()
the only thing that's close that i know of is a 3# box of martha white. i was told that it is not available in my area normally...so maybe it's something like that?
I brought thes ame bag at a big lots in devils food.I halved the bag and used half the amount of water stated it was way tooooo fragile.I tookthe cake out of the over and after it cooled in the pan for a while i took it out and it feel apart I later used that for cake balls. But i wish you better luck.
OOOPs, sorry about the spelling. Did you find lots of goodies? I really want to try their chocolate cake mix, and get the vanilla powder.
I don't buy choc chips too much, but the prices looked good on the Ghiradelli, especially the sale thats on right now. Janice
Thanks for that input kris, I won't bother. I was wondering just how "good" it would be with only adding water. I use mixes about half the time and was wondering it that would be worth a try but I can't have it falling apart.
I'll have to check out alison's.
Most of the cake mix that you add just water to me are rubbery. I have used several brands over the years, and they are OK. I would not use them for like a wedding cake or grooms cake. You can use some added things in the mix you just have to experiment with additions.
I picked up a bag today at Big Lots, I'll give it a try with milk, eggs and instant pudding and report back ![]()
I also found there a Crayola Create & Eat Edible Food Decorations kit, which includes foodsafe markers and some sort of edible paper. You color on the paper then lay it on a frosted surface and it transfers, according to the box. Seemed like something fun to play around with.
They also had a 16-pack of small icing writer tubes for $3.
I guess Crayola is getting into the cake decorating biz
