Sorry to bother again...can someone point me to a site or maybe give me some instruction on doing grape hycinthias? Want to try to cascade them down the side of a cake...along with some roses.

Maybe this from the 1980 Wilton yearbook will give you a place to start. I think they look sort of like grape hyacinths...

Or...for a "faster" version, the below cake looks great as well!

http://cakecentral.com/modules.php?name=coppermine&file=displayimage&meta=allby&uname=LisaMS&cat=0&pos=55

I attempted a version of this cake (in my photos) but didn't do nearly as well as the above (newbie here! LOL!). But, everyone liked it, and it was very fast to do.

Here is a link to a close up picture of the real deal. So pretty!

Have fun, and be sure to post pictures! thumbs_up.gif

Sure! You can always PM LisaMS as well...she does GREAT WORK (always finding myself trying to be like her! LOL!!)

I used tip 5 and just actually created like a rain drop and brought it up as I squeezed. Believe you me, if this newbie can do it, ANYONE can!!

I used tip 5 for the stem as well. I didn't get the leaves to look right and asked LisaMS how she did hers. She told me she uses leaf tip 349 to do the leaves on these. But, I didn't ask her that until after I had already done mine with a tip 5 and just dragged the tip in the frosting to have it flat rather than round.

Hope that helps! I'm not very good at explaining things so let me know if that doesn't make sense. Better yet, LisaMS is SUPER nice and is always glad to help. She would probably be the better one to ask. Her work is just wonderful.

Have a great day!

Ritzy did you use some sort of template to get such a even circle on top? And how did you space your swags?

The only thing I did for the circle on the top was use a circle in porportion to the pan (put the paper over the pan and measured how far I wanted from the edge). I drew the circle on regular paper, put a piece of wax paper over it and traced it with piping gel (I did that at the very beginning of baking this cake so it could be good and dry when I needed it). I then used that as a template...just took the DRIED piping gel circle template and gently laid it on the cake (after frosting had crusted), pushing the ring of dried piping gel gently in until the ring looked almost transparent. Then, I gently lifted it off. Bingo...a perfect ring indention. Be sure to use a THIN line of piping gel for your template...you only want an indention not a valley! LOL!

I LOVE this method. I use it ALL the time and is a GREAT substitute for those who don't have a KopyKake projector. You can do this with any pattern you want to do! Let me know if that isn't clear enough and I will try to explain it better. LOL!

As for the swags, I just "eyeballed" it. I did the side flowers first and then did the rest of the decorating around them. They are really just shells in a V shape.

Hope that helps!

Wgoat5: How did this work for you? Just dying to see a photo. I'm sure it is wonderful. Of course, if you decided to do a different theme, that's okay too! Just curious how this worked for you.
