Do you think BC would be strong enough to hold a bow (medium size) together? I want to set it on BC, so thought that would be better than RI. NO? Yes? Suggestions? TIA

I'm chicken, I would only use royal. I don't think buttercream would be strong enough to hold it. After going to all the effort of making the bow why blow it at the last second.

I'm assuming you are talking about a gumpaste/fondant bow-right?

OK, I wanted to avoid the problems presented when trying to put RI on BC, but, I have to agree, why make a bow that collapses at just the wrong moment. Royal Icing it will be. (And a small marshmellow under the bow to preserve the intergrity of the RI.) Thank you.

I have also had good luck using chocolate to hold the fondant bow together. It is very strong and dries quickly!

Royal Icing breaks down when it comes into contact with grease. If the RI flower is completely dry it takes longer (2,3, or 4 days) for the grease to melt it. The flowers will start softening after a day or two. They usually hold most of the shape but that would start to go in time, too. We put RI flowers on BC cakes all the time. But the cake is usually delivered immediately, hence, no problem.
