I got an order for a word search cake this week. I usually don't sell cakes, but this was a referral by a coworker for her aunt's 70th birthday. My friend had said her aunt likes Wheel of Fortune and word searches and they were planning to have an elvis impersonator sing to her at the party. I had so many great ideas on the Wheel and Elvis themes, but when the daughter called me to arrange, she wanted a Word Search page! icon_cry.gif I told her i had the book pan and could do an open word search book. I have to put a sheet under it b/c it's for 60.

But I really am stumped - is it going to be boring, all black & white? The invitations are pastel yellow, leaf green and fuschia. I thought maybe I could make a GP pencil, but any other ideas would be GREATLY appreciated!!!

Can you do an edible image for the word search? What amout making smalll foundant squares and laying them on the cake like a word search, then take a edible marker and write words and numbers on the squares.

Make the border of the book and the open pages colorful. If putting on top of another cake, I put in a strip of fondant around the edges of the book to look like it is sitting on top of the cake. Pencil on top is a good idea, maybe a pair of glasses too.

You can get really creative on the words too. Ask the daughter for children and grandchildren's names, special places, "Happy Birthday". When I made my slot machine cake, I personalized it and everyone enjoyed that. Makes it more personal.

Oooo! You guys are fast! I do have an edible image printer and i found a website that allows you to put in your own words and it generates a word search page. Pretty cool. But I'm concerned about it being all white & black.
I had planned to put a sheet cake the same size underneath to make up the servings, but the slices would be soooo small. So now I think I need a larger sheet underneath and maybe have it look like a tablecloth or something with some color? I so undercharged on this one... icon_cry.gif

You could circle the words with color to match the Pencil, or you could use a colorful border.

I like adding the pencil. But I would add the coffee cup and a pair of glasses. The page might be blah, but you can impress with the accessories. I really like the idea of putting special words in the search:happy birthday, the grandkids names, hometown, hobbies, ect.

This could be a really fun cake!

Just another thought ... you could put a long-stemmed rose lying across the page, or maybe put a bank of roses at opposite corners where the book cake lies on the sheet cake....

I do like the idea of a pair of glasses ... maybe red frames ... rice paper (wafer paper) lenses ...

A coffee cup with "liquid" in it ... make the cup very colorful, perhaps with a floral design on the outside ... "hot cocoa" in it with marshmallows floating on top ...

You can really do so much with this one! Good Luck and post pics afterwards!
