Help!!! I Need Help With Making Fondant/gumpaste Figurines

I'm making a cake for my niece's first birthday and there is supposed to be a little girl sitting on the top of the cake. I've been playing around with it for the past 2 hours and I get her to look good. It doesn't stay the way I mold it...she keeps falling and looking chubbier and chubbier. What can I do to make sure it keeps shape? HELP PLEASE!!

Maybe put it in the fridge for a few minutes.... I know sometime the heat from your hands can make it soft..... or you could add some more powdered sugar.... sorry I couldn'tbe more help.

I add a tiny bit of Tylose. also you can use "gum tragacanth" if you get hold of one.

I read in a thread to lay the figure on her back so it won't get chubby. There was a thread a couple of days ago on a tinkerbell, try to see what happend with that!

I make the body parts one by one. And, in the main body, I use a toothpick to support later with the head. Debbie Browns books are great for ideas.

You need to make the body parts seperate and let them harden before you put them together. Otherwise they do start to "smoosh".

I use fondant/gumpaste mix 50/50 when making my figures/animals.

i used gumpaste(flower paste) my first try and it turned out ok. i hope it helps or you could use gum paste and fondant 50/50. if you are not satisfied you could use a figurine, good luck.

i have wiltons gumtex and just knead a little in the piece that needs to hold up. then leave it to sit for 10 min or so in cooler place and mold. it should stay up then.

if it is very hot in your area then using ac really helps with molding figures and also if you have warm hands it is good to wash them with cold water in between.
