Here's a quick question to all of the brilliant CCers...Next month will be my Great-Grandmothers 99th birthday and I always make the cake for her party. My question is, if I make Royal Icing Flowers (even out of the Snow White Icing) in assorted fall colors and put them in a cardboard box until then, will the colors fade before I need them in mid-November? I've made white roses several weeks in advance without them yellowing, but didn't know how the colors would hold up. When we make them in advance at the shoppe where I work, we only make them a day or two ahead so they won't fade.
Also, any suggestions on what I could do for this occasion would be appreciated. I haven't searched the gallery yet-which I plan on-but thought fresh ideas would help.
TIA...
Jenn
IMHO it takes alot longer than a month for them to fade.... I made some royal icing flowers at work and we put the extras away in clear containers and most of them still look good! They hold up better than the extra fondant decorations we've stored, actually.
How about storing it in a dark place ?..no direct sunlight or flourescent.
That's what I do with my fondant flowers.
I was told my my Wilton teacher and I read on baking911 that they will keep a long time but they must be kept out of the light or they will fade...the teacher said not to put them in a plastic container..a cardboard container out of the light would be best....don't freeze or put them in the fridge to store...I kept some in the sideboard in the dining room in a box and they were fine for at least 3 weeks....
i made and stored a bunch of royal icing flowers in a bead sorter for months and they didn't fade. try and keep them somewhere airtight once they are dry so that they don't get subjected to moisture or humidity... keeping them somewhere cool and dark wouldn't hurt either.

i have some flowers i did in my wilton 2 class about 3 1/2 months ago and they still look the same. i even have them in a plastic container but not in direct light. yours should be ok for 1 month.
I pop mine into a plastic container while they are in the foil (after ample drying time). They are protected from breakage, and air tight. I always put them in my pantry, so they are out of the light. They will fade over time, but I'd think it'd take a long time.
