Hello everyone! I just stumbled across this website yesterday, and now I am inspired but need lots of help! I am planning a birthday party for my twins that are turning one! I bought premade fondant yesterday for a mid sized cake and plan on making two smash cakes. I don't even know where to begin. I am doing a test run this weekend, and I need some advice! I want to learn from your mistakes, because as you can imagine, I dont have a whole lot of free time! anyway, I would like to know how to get really crisp clean flat edges with buttercream, and what is the most important thing to know or have when working with fondant? I would like to dye the fondant I have also.. how hard is that? I have always made my kids birthday cakes in the past. I have another daughter who is about to turn five so I have some experience, but not much in the technique department! thank you so much!!

hello, as far as getting the buttercream to have really nice edges you can use something as simple as your licenes just hold it really straight agianst the cake when you frost it. Tinting fondant is simple as well just cut out the amount you need and add a drop of color at a time and then need it like you would dough until the color mixes well also if your fondant is sticking to your hands i just put a little bit of crisco on my hands it does the trick.
