Hi everyone...just need a little input. I haven't done too many cutout cookies in the past, but want to offer them to sell over the holidays. I made this batch of all white/glittery themed chrismtas cookies. I took a picture and am posting it to a flyer that I will be distributing. I am going to package these cookies in a pretty gift basket, and sell it for $25.00. I just need your opinions...this is just my first sample. In addition, I am going to offer colorful christmas cutouts, along with gingerbread men and an assorted holiday cookie tray.
Would you offer me your opinions, positive or constructive? Thanks so much....I do appreciate it!

Thanks!
Ellen

Oh, good, thanks! I feel relieved. I think now that I have done them one time, I could repeat it much more efficiently. The fact that they are all the same color makes it go faster.

The color cutouts will be the challenge!

They are gorgeous cookies. Are they gingerbread? You did a great job and they will package up very nicely.

What recipe did you use for the cookies?

I have found with the few cookies that I have done that you try to plan it out and do one color at a time. They seem to go faster then.
Good Luck and I hope to see pictures.

I think they look great! What type of cookie dough and icing did you use?

What size are the cookies? I think you might be underpricing a bit, if they're 3-4 inch size cookies.

Take a look at some of the pricing threads on the cookie forum. I know Helen (Antonia74) charges $1 per inch ($3 for a 3 inch cookie), and most of the big chain cookie places like cookies by design charge much more than that! (And yours look better than Cookies by Design's, too!).

hth!
Laura.

Thanks......I am figuring they are 2.00 for a two inch cookie. I used just a butter cookie dough, (the wilton recipe) but I incorporated cocoa powder to give it a chocolate flavor and taste. I like gingerbread, but I think people generally like chocolate better. For my gingerbread people, I am going to roll the cookies in cinnamon and sugar to give it a holiday taste. They are really soft and fresh, easy to eat. (sometimes the sugar cutouts are too hard to bite into).

Nice design, work on getting the royal even (I can see issues on the lower snowman and ornament).

I think $25 for a dozen 2" cookies is high but good for you if you can find people to pay that.

I think your cookies are beautiful, it looks like you put a lot of work into these!
There's a bakery in my city called Isobel & Co and they sell decorated cookies for 5$ each... and I think yours show much more work.
Cheers and good luck!

The issues with the uneven looking icing is simply that there is glitter on top of the royal that is not real smooth, but it doesnt show up well in the photo. I know to some people, 25 bucks is high for two dozen cookies, but it took me 2 hours to hand decorate them, and I don't work for less than 10 dollars per hour. Otherwise, it is just not worth my time unless I am doing it just for fun. Cookies by design sells slightly larger cookies for almost 6bucks a cookie! I think my two dollars a cookie isn't so bad, plus they get them in a beautiful gift basket.

Your cookies look lovley and I like the all white color scheme. Yes, I agree. You have to set a per hour charge for your work and include the cost of the basket to make it worth your time. If there was no basket then it would bring down the cost. It's for a special time of the year so people probably won't have a problem with your price. Good Luck!

I think if $25 seems high to someone, then their budget just simply might not allow for an expense of that kind or your local market will not bear that kind of price. I don't think it is a question of you pricing them too high or them not being 'good enough' for that price. $25 for TWO dozen, 2 inch, hand decorated, extensively decorated cookies such as those is actually a little low, IMO. I would price them at least $30-35, escpecially if they're packaged individually and placed in a decorative basket. They are really beautiful cookies and are so detailed. But, as with cakes or anything else, you have to price them for what your area will pay and also at a rate that you are comfortable with.

I'm also doing a variety of cookies for the holidays...ranging from old-fashioned choc.chip/oatmeal/oatmeal-raisin/scotchies/snickerdoodles/choc.choc.chip to decorated cut-outs and gingerbread people. My prices range from $20-$45 per basket, depending on cookie type and amount per basket. I'm placing them in a few area shops...book store, coffe shops, lunch/deli places, variety shops. And a few of them have requested orders for individually pkg'd cookies that they can sell one by one. Some of the stores are doing it on a sort of consignment basis...they'll sell them and I'll pay them a flat fee at the end of Nov./Dec. for however many baskets they sold. Others are buying them from me outright for my prices, then marking them up for their profit. My $45 basket, in those shops, will probably be sold for $50-$55 icon_eek.gif Oh well...people will pay that here so they can charge that in these 'upscale' types of shops. Now, why they would hesitate to pay ME that, directly, I'll never know...but that's another rant for another time. icon_razz.gificon_lol.gif

No way is 25 dollars for a dozen cookies and a gift basket too much to pay. Maybe in podunk anywhere.it is ...but you price according to your local.

Great cookies...can't wait to see the pic of the cookies in the basket...please post those....

I would order them! I am no business person, but I have paid 50.00 for a dozen of 3 inch decorated cookies in a bakers box, so I think they are awesome and a little under priced! Think about the cost of the baskets, your time, supplies and even the cost of baking them. I think you should go a little higher at least 30 to 35.00. Good luck over the holidays, I bet they will go faster than you can turn them out! icon_smile.gif
