ok, i found the recipe for the 3d cakes in the recipe forum. so i am going to use this to make my bear cake today and see how it turns out.
what i am now wondering is if anyone prefers not using the heating core? i read that you can not use it and turn your oven down to 325 and cook awhile longer and it comes out just fine. i am afraid though that it would still be uncooked in the middle, but if it works i had rather not use it. it just seems like it would be more "solid" and hold up better.
so has anyone here tried it without the core and had no problems??

I don't know about more solid, my 3D pooh bear (in my photos) was very solid. My problem with the core is it's a pain in the butt to cut the cake around, especially without making it look very un-poohlike... I've heard a few ladies say that they use their wondermold pans without a core and they turn out fine, just cook it at a lower temp.

I use pound cake & I WOULD FORSURE use HEATING CORE. Everyone does it both ways it's just whay works best for you. This way works best for me. As far as batter I've used reg. cake mix & pound cake. Pound cake made cake set up alot taller. icon_wink.gif

i was going to use a pound cake (for the first time) but someone recomended the recipe inthe forums. you use a box mix, then add 4 egg whites, 1/2 c water, 1/3 c oil, pack of instant vanilla pudding mix and i c. sour cream.
so...i just have finshed mixing up the batter and it doesnt taste very cakey icon_confused.gif guess i am just use to the same way i do it everytime though. the batter does seem alot more dense though.
