OMG, I have a small wedding cake due the end of September. Just got off the phone with the bride and groom. This is what they want:

Chocolate cake; cherry or chocolate cherry filling; two tiers; fall themed; no acorns or pumpkins; oh they don't care weather the frosting is white or chocolate either. They did say that they are having mums at the chuch but don't even know what kind of flowers they are having yet. The rest is up to me - they said use my imagination. Now I know the cake will just be pretty much for show but they want a small tier to keep and the other one for cutting.

so what do I do? Any suggestions out there??????

I know there are very talented people here and can come up with some really cool ideas so please please please help me on this one.

How about doing a white frosted cake with accents of fall colors. Use one color to make drapes, have mums around the bottom for a border. It sounds as though it might be a simple affair, this would be simple looking, but elegant.

I made a wedding cake for a friend this spring that had raffia around each tier and daisies..but I thought the raffia would do well for a fall wedding too...you could change up the flowers for some fall type and just do 2 tiers instead of 3...it was simple and pretty easy.
Just a thought and if you are interested in seeing it, it would be in the wedding cake pics here.

The other is a cake I saw in my Toba Garret book (the first one) and it is a two layer cake..in ivory with ivory maple leaves on it and the leaves themselves were embossed...very pretty..they did a full blown rose and some acorns(leave them off) ..you might be able to see it on her site..

that's all I can think of at the moment...HTH

How about using clusters of grapes for the decoration. You could even use different colors of grapes....and make the leaves fallish looking.

Wow your ideas are along the same lines as mine. I love all the pictures they provide me with lots of options. I think I'm leaning toward chocolate frosting though. Thanks a bunch!

Here is one I thought of, what do you think?

http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://ricksdessertdiner.com/_images/_wedding/fall_cake.jpg&imgrefurl=http://ricksdessertdiner.com/wedding.php&h=189&w=134&sz=14&hl=en&start=154&tbnid=v6qX0s5_-AMdBM:&tbnh=103&tbnw=73&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dfall%2Bcakes%26start%3D140%26gbv%3D2%26ndsp%3D20%26svnum%3D10%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DN

It's totally different but very simple. I would make maybe three tiers (one would be a dummy or it could be real and I could take it home afterwards).

I did this one for a winery - http://www.cakecentral.com/cake-photo_891183.html

Could very easily be "redone" with fall colors - in fact, I think I'll do that to update my display up there icon_smile.gif

It would be gorgeous on chocolate icing, too!

Thanks for all your help. I had a meeting with the Bride and groom last night and I presented allyour ideas. Once they saw the chocolate frosting they thought it might be too dark so we are going with ivory colored frosting, with this style cake but with three tiers. The top of the cake with have a bed of leaves with two wedding bands sitting on top.

I can't wait to get started. Off to buy some more gumpaste as I have lots and lots of leaves to make.
