Material Draped Around A Wedding Cake.

I have this bride who wants some organza draped around the three layers of her wedding cake. She supplied me with some organza ribbon about 4" wide but is too stiff and to me that is not wide enough. I did wash a sample but it didn't make any difference. Can anyone tell me what they would use and what width. Most organza that I can purchase is very wide and I don't want rough edges showing if it has to be cut. I did use a sample of curtain netting and seemed to drape not too bad but I don't think she would like curtain netting. The cake is white with black ribbons around each layer and she wants white organza. I did look for something black but I couldn't seem to find black black but more slatey black. Advice would be appreciated. Thanks
I don't have much experience but if you could send a sketch and attach it to your post...
Do you mean that she wants to attach organza like people attach fondant swags or drapes?...not exactly sure what you mean....
There are some cake templates on the template section of the gallery and you could find the one that looks most like the cake you are going to do and sketch it out....
you might get more response if you did that....also, you might look in the wedding cake gallery to see if there is anything similar....and contact the person who made the cake...
Organza is a stiff crisp fabric. It does not drape. If she wants draping you should consider chiffon. It is also a very sheer material and is very flowy. Again though you will have the rough edges but maybe you can either have the ends sewn or attach a ribbon to the edges to make a finished look.
One other idea is the get a chiffon shaw it will be approx 8-10 inches wide and will already be sewn. I have some here but not in black or white. I have pink, hot pink and red. I do have a wide organza shaw but it has beading (gorgeous glass and swarovksi beading) It is white and it is organza. You may be able to drape it but not as well as chiffon.
If you have a sketch you can post it or pm me and I can see if I can help. I have lots of fabric since I use to do custom wedding gowns.
You can also try steaming the organza. It should soften it some. I had a dress with organza flowers made and this is what we had to do to make the material move like it should.
