Questions About Cookies W/ Royal And Luster Dust.
Baking By my2sunshines Updated 18 Oct 2006 , 5:36pm by Fairytale
HI, I am making No fail cookies and royal icing from the HOW TO section. I want to add gold writing on the cookies and bag them w/ ribbon. I have read on the site that you can mix the dust w/ vodka or you can do it dry. Can someone please explain to me if this will dry hard on the cookie like the royal icing does. I want to make sure it doesn't smudge in the bags. If not, how would you put gold on a royal iced cookie to be bagged?
Thanks is advance,
kim
It's funny you should ask this now. I'm doing a demo on Sunday on this very topic. You can paint the gold with either vodka or lemon extract. However, sometimes the gold won't dry when you use the extract because of the oil. You really couldn't put it on dry because there's nothing for it to stick to. Be sure your royal is really dry or the vodka can cause pitting. Here are some cookies I painted with cold and lemon extract.
YES!!! It worked out perfectly thanks to everyones advice. You can see the outcome in my photos, the pink cookies w/ gold writing.

Actually, I used clear vanilla extract and that dried and I noticed no real extra taste from it.

I love your work. Do you have simple instructions of your demos? I really love the gold/metallic colors!
Unfortunately I don't have any insturctions from my demo. My best advice is to just play with the dusts until you come up with something that works for you. I'm going to be playing with my cake toys today.lol. Going to make a halloween cake covered in fondant, with lots of dusts. Good luck. I know you'll do great. Just got to go for it.
