How do I get that smooth nice camo looking design with bc. It is almost hunting seaon and I have never done a camo cake but now I have a request for one and I need help on exactly how to do it and make it look nice. Thank you!
Hi, I did a camo suitcase (you can see it in my pictures), I put on different sections of colors than kinda smeared them and smoothed them, then I used an impression mat to get the grain sort of. It worked pretty well, I figure you can let it crust and smooth it from there. Good luck.

I did a camo/hunting cake for two boys and everyone thought it was great. Its in my pictures. I piped the buttercream on and let it sit for about 30 minutes and then I smoothed it out with a very tiny brush. There are some areas I could have done better but this cake took a long time but the look on their faces were priceless.
Good Luck

i dont know if hunting camo is the same as army camo but i did a camo cake for my friend's son a few months ago. i used a crusting buttercream and mixed up all the different colors i wanted to use. i piped the design pretty heavy on the sides of the cake first. i did not have the colors touch but left a tad bit of space in between each one. then i used a viva paper towel and my fondant smother and just smoothed it all out and the different colors came together and was effective. i then did the tops and wasnt totally satisfied with the edges but the kid was trilled with it!

I've got one to do for Friday. One of my local experienced cake buddies told me to pipe on black for the design, then put blobs of the colors on with just a coupler with no tip, let it set for about 5 minutes, then put powdered sugar on your fingers and start patting it out to spread it. Then smooth after it crusts. I don't know why you can't use a spatula or knife instead of your fingers. I'm not sure I like the fingers idea. I guess that is so you have more control over it.
