I Am Scared To Death I'll Screw Up This Cake!

I have a beautiful 11x15 upstairs. It cooked evenly, I was able to slice and fill it easily, and I iced it in chocolate icing so quickly and it's one of the smoothest rectangular cakes I've done yet... But... it's a blank slate. I need to make a family tree on it and I'm TERRIFIED of screwing it up.

Rightly so, I'm a terrible artist and can't draw to save my life, but I have the best cake projector, just WAITING for me to turn it on and then I'll trace the tree trunk and branches and then fill in with leaves, but WHAT IF...

What if I manage to mess it up? What if the projector doesn't work (Yes, I should have tested it before). What if I can't see the image well enough to trace it!!! I'm TERRIFIED... I know ONCE I do it, I'll feel fine, but I'm a novice at this and it's a paid cake!!!

ACK!!! Hyperventilating here!

Ok Melisa, take a deep breath. Now there are a lot of what if's but walk your self throught it take a one step at a time and don't panic and deal with one thing at a time and if a problem arises then deal with it then. Don't freak out or you will paralize yourself and not be able to do a good job. YOu can do it just take things slow

Girl, you've finished the hard part - getting the icing, especially chocolate smooth. Draw out what you want to do on paper and pratice it a few times then go for it. I know you are going to do a great job!

Holy moly, it will be fine. : ) Don't think about that it's a paid cake.

Turn your projector on and get to work. : ) I am sure it will turn out great.

Thanks everyone, the tree turned out BEAUTIFUL!!! I just made it ugly with my handwriting - I've got to learn a new technique or something. DH says it's fine, but I think it SUCKS!

Also, I was so worried about spelling the baby's name wrong, I didn't put on the last name like the family wanted... do you think they will mind? I really can't scrape it off with out a HUGE mess. Plus, With a name Lorien Annalee, adding a last night will make it REALLY TINY... hmm... let me see if I can squeeze it underneath... I don't think I can.

I about had a heart attack though because I realized that my Kopykake cake projector didn't come with screws!!! Fortunately, we had some at home that fit, PHEW... Then I thought the light bulbs were burned out or the wire was shorted. I didn't realize it wouldn't TURN ON unless the lid was closed! What a morning! LOL

In my opinion, not having the last name is fine. Since theres a banner on the trunk that has the last name. It looks wonderful.

I think it looks great. : ) As for your writing, print it out in a nice handwriting font on your computer/printer and then put it in your projector and copy it onto the cake.

That is the main reason I bought the projector... I just didn't have confidence to do it today or the extra time to print it out (running late after the problems getting the projector together - no screws, couldn't figure out how to get it to work! LOL)

I'm HOPING that it'll be better with that!

For what it's worth I much prefer the baby's name written w/o the last name...that's kind of redundant since, as mentioned, it's already on the banner! Looks much classier this way. Nice job!

OK, I see absolutely NOTHING wrong with your writing. I honestly think it looks wonderful!!!!! I'd be thrilled to pieces if I could write that well on a cake. Your cake is fantastic!!!!! I just love everything about it. GREAT JOB!!!!!!!
