Are these just donuts covered with fondant? Buttercream? Any ideas how these were made?

looks like what we called a cruller (from dunkin donuts) covered in....??

Could it be a cruller dipped in colored chocolate like candymelts?

They definately look like crueller donuts covered in fondant. I did these tires for the monster truck cake in my gallery. They were actually not very hard to cover and looked great.

ntw, I wrote to the gal who made them and she told me they are covered in royal icing!!! Pretty wild, huh!
