Who's Got Makin' Ultimate Extruder?

I just bought this and am very excited. I played with it some tonight and it was so easy to work. One thing I noticed, though was that the fondant got some grey discoloration from the tube. I didn't notice it on the peices that came through the tube, but more so on the fondant in the tube when I changed disks. Anyone else notice that? Does that concern anyone? I've read a lot of posts about clay guns and have never heard that complaint before for this model. Also, I'm wondering what the black rubber ring is for? Is that a replacement for the one on the plunger? Do I put it in the end in front of or behind a disk?
okay, I know you're out there! You've been praising this gun up the wazoo!
I have a Makin's Extruder!! I bought mine about 2 months ago, and love it! I haven't had a chance to really play around with it as much as I would like to, but I have used it about 5 or 6 times. I never noticed any grey on anything but I will try it again this week and check to make sure. I couldn't figure out what the black disc was for either
I tried to put it on the bottom with a disc but it didn't work so I haven't been using it at all
But yeah I love mine and I'm so glad I decided to go with this one. I hope to hear from other who have this and what they say about the discoloration. I hope I've helped!
I bought one of the clay guns at A.C. Moore it was about 8 dollars and it had the gray stuff too, I thought it was probably grease or something that was used when they made the gun........I just used a bottle brush for a baby bottle you know?? the little one I guess it's a nipple brush.....it cleans it right out.....then I boiled the whole thing in some boiling water (made me feel better to think it was sterilized lol) and I haven't had that gray stuff EVER again!!
I have that extruder and LOVE LOVE LOVE it!!! As with all new products, you have to thoroughly wash it - sometimes several times. I didn't have grey stuff, but I was diligent threading a paper towel through the tube until it came out perfectly clean.
The rubber gasket in the box is an extra just in case you lose the one in the extruder. They thought of EVERYTHING!
Thanks! I knew you all were out there! I was just playing with mine so I didn't poison anyone with my grey fondant. I'll be sure to give it a good washin' when I use it for a real application. Sometimes I get so excited I can't bother to wash. I want to dive right in. I bought mine at Michaels with the 40% off coupon. It's regularly priced $30. It came in a plastic storage case. Here it's listed for less (but how much is shipping? And I bet they don't have a 40% off coupon) It appears to not have the storage case (not that the case is a deal breaker)
