When a local baker retied recently, I hit her yard sale and I made some serious scores! (caught it near the end, so missed out on some other good stuff I am sure!) I got a $170 garden stand in like new condition for $25! Anyway, I bought this set of acrylic stands, and am so excited to use them! They are like some I've seen online, clear acrylic tubes in varying lengths and clear crystal plates that go on top to hold the cakes. Now, it is an incomplete set, it has like 12 tubes and only 6 plates, so I need to purchase the missing pieces for it to become functional, but I have some questions... the acrylic sets I have looked at online look like they have skinny tubes, but these tubes measure a full 4" in diameter (NOT circumference!!) The place I have found these tubes online does not specify how big the tubes are, but they look nowhere near as big as these. They look like they are perhaps half as big. Does anyone know where to find the plates that will work with these large tubes? Also... are there definite bottom and top plates, or can I just use the same size plate on the bottom as the base? This is not something I have experience with, so I don't want to screw it all up! icon_redface.gif

Thanks to anyone who can offer me some help with this! Oh, and links to places to buy these items would be cheerfully received! icon_wink.gif

These acrylic tubes are 4" in diameter: http://www.bakingshop.com/weddingcakes/tubecakestand.htm

Not sure if they are the same ones you need. If they are, I may have seen them cheaper somewhere else.

Melvira,
Try a local acrylic ssupplie. They manufacture all sorts of things using acrylic or plexiglass. I also scored some of the same type of stands but they had been made by an individual using things she had bought from a manufacturer. Not sure where you live but look in your yellow pages for a plexiglass supplier or acrylic supplier. Take the stand pieces in and they can cut what you need very inexpensively.

Unfortunately the part I need is the plate... I don't know if that would be 'easy' for them to do??? I wonder. Doesn't hurt to ask, right?

I am so envious you have those 4" ones! I've been wanting some for awhile (just haven't gotten my shopping-butt in gear to look for them yet). I love the look and you can do so much with them!

I swap the plates all the time depending on the cake. I had one bride who wanted the big tier as the tallest, so I had a larger base plate on the bottom for stability (i.e. 14" base plates with a 12" top plate).

Cool Debi... thank you for the input! After looking at what they cost on that website, I know I got a serious deal. There are literally like 12 or more tubes and half as many plates. (I can't recall the exact count... it might even be more than that) But the cool part is that I got them for less than what one of the plates cost!!! icon_eek.gificon_surprised.gif I am SUPER proud of that purchase! Now I just need to get all the extra plates! icon_wink.gif

They can cut anything for you to you specifications. They sell you the pieces and the glue comes in a little can. It actually dissolves the plexiglass. All you do is place the two pieces together and using a small paint brush you brush just a little bit of the glue around where they connect. It is sort of sucked inbetween. In a matter of minutes it is done. They have all sorts and sizes of tubes and so many types and colors and thicknesses of plexiglass (or acrylic whatever you want to call it). It is SO worth looking into. You will be hooked so consider yourself warned. The possibilities are endless.

Ok... now you are getting me interested! I didn't even think about it being that easy. You may have started something here. icon_rolleyes.gif I get addicted to these lower cost 'home' solutions so easily! (Um... 'roller'... need I say more? Hahaha!)

It looks like those are from Bakery Crafts. The item numbers match those on the catalog of BC: http://www.bakerycrafts.com/Items.aspx?np=10380,10423,10426&PageNumber=0

I can normally find the BC items on Ebay but they are not there atm.

Maybe they just don't expect you to use them all at once. Like only 3 at a time.. hehe

Good luck on finding them. Please let me know what you come up with, because I would love to have some of these, just not for that price. icon_wink.gif (yeah, I'm cheap) icon_razz.gif

I will let you guys know what I end up doing! I did a local search for acrylic or plexiglass suppliers last night and didn't come up with much. I might even break out the old phone book, because sometimes that's the even more accurate than the web. Wish me luck! icon_wink.gif

I have a store near me (FLower Factory) that sells these acrylic stands by the piece. Next time I'm down there, I'll see what they might have for you. If they have them, I'll be more than happy to get them and ship to you. Will let you know when I go down there.
