I am making a cake with bows on it for Saturday. I decided to use gumpaste instead of the fondant/gumpaste mix that i usually use because i thought it would dry faster. Am I mistaken? I made the gumpaste yesterday afternoon and then made the bow loops last night. This morning I get up and they are still not near being dry or firm. Do you think I did something wrong?
The drying process, to some degree, depends on how thick the pieces are. You might want to put them in the oven, with the pilot and light on, for a while. The gumpaste may have been a bit more moist than usual or the humidity in your area is up. (Here, humidity is a big issue.)

gumpaste does usually dry faster. are your bow loops kind of thick? usually mine will dry pretty decent over night. i don't have a gas stove, so on occassion i have put my stuff over the heat vent to help dry them a bit faster. i can't imagine it not drying by saturday.
I used the wilton gumpaste mix that comes in the 1 1b container. That is what I always buy. I did spray the counter with cooking spray this time instead of using crisco. Would this have something to do with it? I think to be on the safe side, I may do it over again. I just checked on the loops after being at the preschool where I work today and they are still kind of moist feeling in places. Aggravating.
