I was asked to do wedding favors for September 2008. The favor will be a "beaver" measuring 4 3/4 inches. The bride will need a minimum of 220 cookies. I am just going to use the NFSC with royal icing. If the saying is "$1 an inch", can I charge her $5 per cookie? icon_eek.gif I do not want to overcharge her. Please advise! icon_rolleyes.gif

Do you have a pic of the beaver? And yes, I would say you would not be out of line with $5 a cookie. You will hate yourself if you do it for less. That's a lot of cookies. Do you also have to bag and tag them? Charge extra for that. : )

i charge the $1 an inch plus extra depending on how they want it tied. if you look around the net there are a lot of cookie favor sites that charge $5 and more for cookies that are 3 inches

It's sounds reasonable to me. icon_smile.gif

For that size cookie $5 would be what I would charge, this includes up to three colors of icing. If more it would depend on the detail if I charged more.

If they were to be wrapped individually I charge another $1 per cookie.

Don't forget delivery either, if you will be setting them at each place setting or on a table for the guest to pick up then make sure you have your time figured in. If you will be setting them up for display don't forget to add any any additional cost of material for the display. (stand, table covering etc...)

(you ever wonder if people actually think about how much these favors are going to be before they request a quote? i just figured it up and before set up on site my price is over $1300 for the favors)

Well, I was a little weary about telling the bride $5 per cookie as well as the additional charges for ribbon, tags etc. But she emailed me today and without hesitation, told me she loved the pictures of the cookies I sent her and asked if I needed a deposit. The bride said she may need 250 cookies. icon_eek.gificon_biggrin.gif

Thank you, thank you, thank you for lending your expertise to this novice cookie maker!

I'm so pleased to hear she was willing to pay your price....I don't think anyone knows how much time and effort it takes to make custom decorated cookies and I am timid about charging $2 for the basketball ones I did, but I forced myself because they take forever and a bloody day to make.....I can only imagine how long it takes to make a beaver icon_lol.gif

so glad you got the order! and it even increased too!!

I have a couple of things going for me with my cookies.
1) The only other place around here right now that compares to what I can do is Cookies by Design, however they are pretty limited in their designs.
2) The grocery store does similiar, but they don't do the detail or package individually

My prices are high, but they are still low compared to cookies by design and we know people pay their prices so why not charge what it is worth?!?

I have had people balk at my prices, but a few of them have then had the opportunity to try my cookies and they have no problems paying the cost b/c as a few customers have told me "they taste just as good as they look!" now that is a compliment I can handle to hear any day of the week.

Thanks alot everybody, this was really interesting I had no dea you could make up to $5 a cookie. If you arrange them in a basket or container and wrap it again you could make even more I guess.
