So I have been asked to make a replica of a wonderful lady's wedding cake for their 60th Anniversary party this year.
From the black and white picture it appears there is some sort of stippling instead of the traditional smooth icing. There is also a huge ball looking thing for the topper. I think the flowers are calla lillies and day lilies around the base and perhaps roses and baby breath in the middle.
I have looked all over the internet hoping to find some info about the styles of wedding cakes in the late 40's but no luck. I remember them saying she had a pink dress because it was the new "California" thing back then. I would imagine her cake design cake from that thinking as well.
Also, how much to charge for this?
That sounds really cool! Do you have a picture that you can scan and post for us?
Hi again....I found a couple of websites where you might get a little insight on a '40s wedding cake. Below is a link to a photo:

And I've attached a photo as well, it was probably a more well to do family, as its pretty detailed.
Here is another link: www.ladiesofreenacting.com/WorldWarII.html
It might be worth looking at for ideas.
Keep in mind, and i love history (here comes a little trivia, please forgive me), the world was at war. Folks had to save their rations for luxuries like cake. So it was probably not as elaborate of the cakes we have today. I hope you find these sites helpful, and please do post what you come up with!
