I saw the posts on how to mix and just paint it on, but how does a beginner decide what color??? The pearl one is sort of obvious but for something like fourth of july or there were some beautiful fall leaves and castles... I'm rambling (sorry). Where is the best place to purchase? My local Michaels store does not carry this stuff only glitter sprinkles. Thanks.

I got mine off of the cakesbysam.com web site but if I remember correctly, intotheoven.com has better prices and fast shipping to boot.

I get mine either from Country Kitchen, or Beryl's. leana posted the other day, this site: Payless Cake Decor.

I think there is no such thing as too many colors. I have a ton and just play around until I find the color I want for what I am doing. Have fun!

Speaking of virgins... I have yet to even purchase the stuff. Is it used to "paint" or color your fondant????? If so, I would be all for it... making colored fondant is tough on my hands (which are sore from the weekend of piping, etc.).

The luster dust is not hard to use at all. I mixed mine with clear vanilla extract. I painted the roses on this cake with luster dust and also used "old gold" luster dust for the hearts. If you google luster dust, there is a link that tells you how to do it. I bought mine at a local cake supply place and it was $3.95 for 2 grams, but I love it. I want all the colors.

Thanks bransmom. I will definately google it. I could have used this technique this past week! I can see how you would want a whole rainbow of the stuff. icon_smile.gif
