So I got a request to do a beaver cake icon_lol.gif Funny I know. Now I am new to 3D Sculpting, (so maybe keep that to a minimum) however I need some ideas to shape the beaver. I was hoping DOUG (the master planner icon_lol.gif ) could help me out! Thanks!!!!!! They want chocolate cake (of course) and I was going to do the fur in chocolate frosting, and then fondant accesories (eyes, cheeks, teeth, tail) Just need help with the form part icon_cry.gif Thanks sooooo much for any ideas that come icon_biggrin.gif

ain't happening -- i need my "ugly" sleep!!!!

foam part?

this whole thing could be edible!

did you see the Ace of Cakes episode a couple weeks back where they made a beaver cake?

really very simple to get the basic shape -- it's all the detailing that takes forever.

and if you've looked at the puppy cake tutorials, same principle -- just building up a different body shape (and oh I so need to go on a diet shape!)

basic shape (will have him flat on the board like Duff did)

body -- stack up sheet and carve until have a big rounded hump that is fat at the butt and narrow at the neck -- sort of like if you took 1/2 half of a wonder mold and married it to a 1/2 sports ball (which if you need a small cake might be the way to go.

head -- just a big ball with the front elongated a bit w/ cake pieces.

front feet -- cake pieces

tail -- just a big ol' slab of fondant or could be a big puddle of BC too.

then have at it w/ BC and fondant (duff's crew did all fondant and used an xacto knife to score the fondant to make the fur.

---

i've also attached a sketch from long ago of how to go for a more vertical beaver.

same principal of ball and wondermold shapes stacked and doweled.

-----

flat would be easier and could add pool of water, sticks in his little paws or mouth, etc.
