I have halogen in my kitchen and wouldn't give it up for the world, it is like natural light.

I have florensent lighting in my kitchen and love it. It is very bright. I holds two 4 foot bulbs with a nice ceiling fixture. We found it at Lowes.

I have fluorescent, 4 four foot lights in ceiling fixture; one 24" light over the sink area; one 18" light under a couple cabinets.

We tried halogen but found them extremely hot!!! I sure don't need or want extra heat in my kitchen!!

I was going to put up adjustable track lighting so I could adjust it to where I need it. Do they make track lighting in different kinds??

You basically have 3 choices when it comes to lighting your kitchen

1. Incandescent bulbs - these are the standard bulbs that are used in almost every light fixture in your house. They emit a warm, yellow light. The bulbs are cheap but burn out relatively quickly.

2. Fluorescent - these are typically used in office buildings. A lot of homes have these bulbs in the kitchen. They can emit either a blue or yellow light depending on the type of bulb purchased (cool vs. warm). The bulbs are bright, last a long time, and are very energy efficient.

3. Halogen (or PAR-16) - these bulbs are best known for being used in torchiere lamps. They produce a clean light, closest to natural sunlight. The bulbs last longer than incandescent but not as long as fluorescent. The largest downfall of these lights is that they produce a lot of heat. Depending on the location and flow of your A/C system, you may not even notice the heat output.

For me, I like the natural light that Halogen lights produce. I wouldn't put them in my living room (where I prefer the softness of incandescent lights) but I definitely would put them in my kitchen and bathrooms.

Good luck! Let us know what you decide!!

What do you mean, ''different kinds''? I know they have halogen and incandescent (regular bulbs) and numberous styles!
As for adjustable, many are but you have to get up there to do the adjusting!! I think it better to have well situated permanent lighting. The under cabinet lights really help tremendously.
Good luck with your new lighting!!!

I have a bar counter that I do my decorating on so where I would put them would only be about 3 1/2 feet from surface, so they should be pretty easy to adjust I would think. We'll be off to Lowe's in a little bit.

Oh, OK. I was thinking along the lines of on the ceiling track lighting. I don't know how the hanging type works.
Good luck and enjoy your new lights!!!

GE Reveal light bulbs!
Very good lighting color, they seem brighter than the same wattage regular bulbs. Roughly the same price, and when you go in the kitchen on a cloudy day it feels like sunshine! icon_smile.gif mmmmmmmmm
