My kitchen has been sort of dark, and my husband is going to put some more lighting for when I decorate cakes. What kind of lighting should I have put in?? Halogen, Fluorescent, etc????
I was going to put up adjustable track lighting so I could adjust it to where I need it. Do they make track lighting in different kinds??
You basically have 3 choices when it comes to lighting your kitchen
1. Incandescent bulbs - these are the standard bulbs that are used in almost every light fixture in your house. They emit a warm, yellow light. The bulbs are cheap but burn out relatively quickly.
2. Fluorescent - these are typically used in office buildings. A lot of homes have these bulbs in the kitchen. They can emit either a blue or yellow light depending on the type of bulb purchased (cool vs. warm). The bulbs are bright, last a long time, and are very energy efficient.
3. Halogen (or PAR-16) - these bulbs are best known for being used in torchiere lamps. They produce a clean light, closest to natural sunlight. The bulbs last longer than incandescent but not as long as fluorescent. The largest downfall of these lights is that they produce a lot of heat. Depending on the location and flow of your A/C system, you may not even notice the heat output.
For me, I like the natural light that Halogen lights produce. I wouldn't put them in my living room (where I prefer the softness of incandescent lights) but I definitely would put them in my kitchen and bathrooms.
Good luck! Let us know what you decide!!
What do you mean, ''different kinds''? I know they have halogen and incandescent (regular bulbs) and numberous styles!
As for adjustable, many are but you have to get up there to do the adjusting!! I think it better to have well situated permanent lighting. The under cabinet lights really help tremendously.
Good luck with your new lighting!!!
I have a bar counter that I do my decorating on so where I would put them would only be about 3 1/2 feet from surface, so they should be pretty easy to adjust I would think. We'll be off to Lowe's in a little bit.
