How do I keep black frosting from leaking purple color into my surrounding white icing? I have tried 2 differant brands of black and they both did it. Any suggestions?

Tey using chocolate icing with black color added to it. Also, condensation that collects on the icing make it bleed as well as icing that is too soft (wet).

Wasn't going to admit how stupid I am but reading this made me have to tell my story.

Thursday night I had two huge sheet cakes to do for the nursing home. Did one white with white and added peach and yellow fondant roses. Then did chocolate with chocolate. Wanted to trim it and make chocolate roses and leaves. Well, brain dead that I was when I got to the chocolate one, I decided I wanted darker chocolate for the trim and roses. Added more cocoa and that didn't do the trick. Thought to myself (or wait, maybe I didn't think), I'll just put in a dab of black coloring.

I know that all of you with half a brain know what happened. I had the ugliest gray asphalt colored icing I have ever seen. Have never been able to get that color gray when I try. I called my daughter and said, "Did I ever tell you that your mother is an idiot?" She obviously already knew it because she didn't argue one bit.

Out came more powdered sugar, etc. and I made fresh icing. Anyone need to do a large racetrack or something? icon_lol.gificon_lol.gif
