I just moved to Chicago and in one week, my roommate and I will be having our housewarming party. I really want to make a cake that will impress my guests. I'm trying to "get legal" and my guests may one day be clients! icon_biggrin.gif

We decided to have a mexican food theme. It's easy and tasty. We're having margaritas and mexican beer with traditional chips, three types of salsa, and possibly a bread bowl with spinach dip.

icon_mad.gif I'm having a hard time coming up with a good idea that will sort of match that mexican food theme, or a housewarming look. Help! Any ideas?? sculpting or art.. I love making cakes!

Thanks!

There was a picture posted last night of a plate of tacos. It was awesome. Maybe check on that.

i think a sombrero would be easy to make with a round cake pan for the brim and a wonder mold pan (or mini wonder mold depending on the size of your cake) to sit in the middle. it sounds like fun!

Wow! That's a great idea! And I really needed a good reason to buy a wondermold (I have no need for a princess cake.. I just really want to make one). I can't beleive I didn't think of that. Thanks!!

Someone recently did a margarita cake. It was really cool!! (sorry, I don't remember who it was)
Just go in the gallery and do a seach for "margarita cake"

P.S.-Welcome to Chicago! I live about 30 minutes south of the city. icon_biggrin.gif

Love it! I was thinking about a margarita cake, but I was so stuck on that fun glass shape which is non-cake-able. Very cool! Another use for jell-o!

Thanks for the pic!

No problem!

That was the first cake that came to mind when you said you were doing a mexican theme.

I've saved it in my favorites it's so cute!

Also, there are some cute taco cakes if you search in the galleries, that are really cute, too!

Good luck! thumbs_up.gif
