Oh my goodness, I soooo excited!! I'm taking cake decorating classes & I just got a call from a lady that had been refered to me, by my instructor, to make a cake for her 2 year old daughter's birthday. The party is on Oct 14th & I need some of your expert help in deciding what kind of cake to make. She said she wants an 'old fashioned' 2 layer cake & her daughter likes Barney & Barbie, but that if I had any ideas to let her know. She said she just wants something to "wow" everyone. I'm suppose to call her back sometime today with any ideas I can come up with so I need you help PLEASE!! Does anyone have any ideas or pictures they can share? This will be my first paying cake for someone I don't know & I really want it to be great. Thanks you so much for any ideas you'd be willing to share!!!
if you go to the gallery and look up barney and barbie you will find lots of pics. congrats on your 1st order!!
psurrette, your Barney cake is wonderful! That's definately one I'll keep in mind. Thanks for the gallery idea, Debbie2881. I'll go look through it now. Thanks too, azlorri for the words of congrats! I'm praying this cake cake turns out great. I'll post a picture of it after it's done if I can figure out how to do that. I've not checked out yet how to post pictures.
This might work for you... I'm planning to make an Elmo cake for my two year old's b-day later this month. I plan to buy the mini bear 3D pan and instead of making it look like a bear I'm going to decorate it like Elmo. You could do the same for Barney. He could be sitting on a round cake or square/rectangle. Or he could be off by himself just for the birthday girl with a matching sheet cake that incorporates some more of Barney's friends. I would use the star tip to fill in the purple and a spatula for smooth green spots. Hope this helps!
I agree with tammiemarie. Doll cakes are a sure way to impress a client. They're fairly easy to make, frost and decorate. And you can get sooooo creative! I've made one doll cake, hadn't taken any courses, but kind of winged it. I wasn't real impressed with myself, but everyone else was.
Congratulations to you on your first order! It will just blossom from there, so be prepared to become popular!
Congrats FreshAir !!! I, too, was so excited when the first person asked me to make a cake for them !! That was a few months ago, and word has gotten around and I've made at least a half dozen more. It's so much fun, isn't it? I'm sure you'll do well. I can hear the excitement in your voice.
I think I'd do a doll cake, too. I bought the pan a month or so ago and haven't used it yet but will be making one for my daughter's niece in December. I've seen some that are really beautiful and it is one that is definitely not your "normal" cake. Maybe even find out if the birthday girl has a favorite color or things she likes (like polka dots, flowers, etc) and do the cake in both of those. That makes it REALLY personal. Mom would love it !! LOL ![]()
