Whats The Best "glue" To Make For Fondant/gumpaste
Decorating By frosting111 Updated 8 Oct 2006 , 11:23am by dky
I have used tiny dabs of water, water and powdered sugar and even made some from fondant and water mixed, smooth but really thick. But no matter how dry I try to keep it, it still seems to be a tad too damp for the rose's and the petals want to droop and fall open... I also use a really good quality tiny paint brush to apply it....Any tips out there on making a better glue?
Thanks in Advance, Mary
are you making your own fondant? if so maybe its too soft ?
I use a paint brush and water to attach my figures....but had a very hard time doing it with candy clay because it was too soft.
for gumpaste, I take a tiny paintbrush and dip in eggwhite--wipe off slightly--and apply. it works for me.
Good luck!
Royal icing works every time and it sticks quick!
tylose powder and water mixed makes a good flower glue.

Do you use thin royal icing and apply it with a paint brush?

Do you beat the egg white first?...

you should be able to find tylose powder at cake decoratings stores or online.
it does stick fairly quick, depending on what you are wanting to use it for.

we use royal icing sometimes when sticking on fondant accents but when making gumpaste flowers and accessories or glueing these onto something we use melted down gumpaste.
We store the melted down gumpaste in a nail polish bottle.... you can buy these from cake supply stores. THe brush is the perfect size. In between uses we store it in the fridge. Its perfect. Sets really hard, is not bulky, basically flavourless and excellent when assembly gumpaste flowers... give it a go.
