Topsy Turvy Cake With Box Mix

has anyone done a topsy turvy cake with a box mix with success. i want to try it for the 1st time and its just for fun and i dont it to turn out really expensive as i'm just going to give it away.

also if you can give me any tips i would be really greatful. maybe something you learned from your 1st time making one.

I did one for my SIL back in July and used the box cake mixes. All I added was pudding to the mixes to make them a little more dense for stacking. I just went by the instructions in the article from this site. It was very helpful. I'll post a pic of the cake. If you have any other questions, feel free to PM me and I'll help if I can. I've done it, too, and was very happy with the results. I used the DH pound cake recipe:

1 pkg Duncan Hines® Cake Mix of choice
1 (3.4 oz) pkg instant pudding and pie filling
4 large eggs
1 cup water (I use buttermilk a lot of the time)
1/3 cup vegetable oil

Oh how cute...the Matt Brown Whimsy cake. I love the colors and the look. I am going to a DOS next weekend and someone is going to demo cake sculpting...can't wait!
