I have just recently started working with MMF and the promblem I am having is the sticking to my surface. I have been using powered sugar to roll it out, but that makes it crack and gives it a dusty look. Can someone tell me what the promblem is?

try adding a little bit of conf. sugar and kneading the fondant. Just add in maybe 1/4 cup at a time until you get the fondant where it doesn't stick to your surface. I know the marshmallow fondant calls for 16 oz. of marshmallows. I have been known to pick up the wrong size bag either larger or smaller and having problems. If it gets too hard to knead, microwave the fondant for a few SECONDS. It makes the fondant so much easier to knead. good luck.

i roll mine out on a mixture of corn starch and icing sugar...cornstarch is more "waxy" and won't dry out your mmf....

I just made my first batch of Easy MMF the other day. When I rolled it out, I just rubbed the surface with shortening and didnt have any problems with it. I stayed moist and and worked fine. I didn't put it on a cake but I just wanted to try it out. I will however do a cake with it in a couple of weeks. Good Luck! How did you like the taste? I really like it but I think I may try to add some popcorn salt to the next batch to cut back on the super sweet taste.

Use shortening to roll it out!! I use to have problems with all of my fondants. I would roll it out, it would crack, there was icing sugar all over it. I used to HATE working with fondant. Ever since I used shortening to roll it out, I love it!! It doesn't stick to the surface, it doesn't give it a greasy taste, and believe it or not, the shortening makes the fondant easier to work with.

I also use shortening and never have problems with it sticking. Now if I could only get my pie dough to stop sticking icon_cry.gif

ChrisJ - I take it, that rolling it in shortening doesn't work? icon_redface.gif I've never made pie dough so I don't know.

Pie dough is a weak spot for me. I'm constantly being told not to handle it that much, don't add too much this, too much that. I can't make a decent pie dough. My bestfriend makes my pie crusts and I make the pies & the cakes icon_biggrin.gif
