I have a little roller with holes all over it that provides that effect...
However, if you don't have time to order one, I don't know.
i did a search and all i pulled up was about BC too. as for a roller, it's not that i don't have time to order one, i just don't foresee the need for in it in the future. how many basketball cake will i make? unless you can tell me what else you use it for? the only thing i though of so far was to use a tip and just keep poking the fondant but i think i might just go insane doing that over and over and OVER again.
What about using a peice of tulle as an impression mat?
that sounds promising. i've only seen tulle with really tiny openings though, do they make it with bigger openings?
I know I've seen some big holed mesh tulle-like fabric at the fabric store before.
It just dawned on me that you can make your own roller...
Buy a block of polymer clay, roll it into a log and poke holes in it and then bake... you'll get the same thing for $1 that I probably paid $12 for. LOL!
Or how about using a carrot...? Hmmmmmm...

now that's an awesome idea! but is the polymer clay ok then to roll on the fondant and then have people eat?

Once it's baked, I'm sure it's safe... it's before baking that you'd have to be concerned about.
