I need to make a castle cake for my niece's birthday next week and would like some tips on how to do it. I've seen several different ones in the gallery and I'm not sure which one I want to do...so if you have done one...post a pic and tell me how you did it!! (I'm especially interested in how to do the pillars)
Thanks in advance for your help!! icon_smile.gif

hi

I've done 2 of these castle cakes. I used paper towel rolls and tp rolls for the pillars. I wrapped them in fondant (let dry) and put ice cream cones on top with frosting. The cake itself was an 8' with an 6' on top. The little girls i did it for loved it. Sorry no pictures yet. I haven't gotten that far yet at this computer stuff. haha

im not sure what you mean by pillars the cones at the top because those can just be made from ice cream cones or like acutaly support pillars because i would just use wedding cake pillars for those. icon_eek.gif

Sorry for the confusion
By pillars i mean the towers around the castle that have some windows and vines of flowers growing up them. You put the upsidedown ice cream cone on top of the paper towel rolls to give that effect of a tower with a peak. I hope this helpes

HI. I made a castle cake a few weeks ago-- it was actually my first paid cake!! icon_biggrin.gif For the castle turrets, I used pound cake and baked it in soup cans(any round can will do)!! You get a nice round shape. Then i topped them with ice cream cones. Fill the cans about 3/4 and bake according to recipe. I do spray the cans first, then line with parchment and then spray again. I also leave the parchment taller than the can so the cake just rises up, so spilling over. Let the cake cool completely in the can so it can firm up. Then just trim the tops to make level. Hope this helps!!
