Can you paint a fondant cake with shimmer dust? I have been reading some of the forums and I see that luster dust is preferred. However, I am unable to find luster dust and I have a cake which is due tomorrow for a b-day party. Also, would it be possible to put the shimmer dust in a coffee grinder to make the grains smaller? Thanks to anyone who can help!!
If you have the big flake shimmer dust (cake sparkles) you can grind them to a fine dust (Wilton's shimmer dust is just finely ground cake sparkles). They do not mix well with the alcohols to paint on--they tend to clump. You best bet is to mist your cake with either water or an alcohol and then sprinkle the shimmer dust on to make them stick. The shimmer dust really does not give the best affect that luster dust does.
Thank you for your response, that helps. I guess that I won't saist my money on shimmer dust for painting ![]()
