Wilton I: What Should I Do For My 1St Cake Rainbow Or Charac
Decorating By sassycgirl Updated 7 Oct 2006 , 4:06am by TexasSugar
I went to my first class last night for Wilton I... I think my inst. is really nice and knows her stuff... Ok so next week we have the option to bring a 8" round cake already with a base coat OR a character cake.... Which would you suggest taking?? I would love to do a shape but kinda want to do the rainbow so I can practice base coating.... Thanks for your input... Oh and one more thing... Whats a simple filling I could use??? Can you use Choc pudding??? Thanks
I did the rainbow cake....I wanted to practice icing a cake smooth....I think you get the best of both worlds...learning to do the stars and learning to smooth icing...
have fun!
as for fillings, I like making cookies n cream with some crunched up oreos in my buttercream and I like a cooked raspberry filling (thats pretty darn easy)....
You may not have time to finish either, though you have a better chance of finishing the rainbow in class. I did the rainbow when I took C1 because I needed more experience with icing and smoothing.
Chocolate pudding is an easy filler...and it tastes good too!!
I wouldn't do the character cake. You will only have 30 or so mins to decorate in class and those cakes take time. Not to mention usually require a ton of different colors.
I'd do the raiwbow cake. I also give my students the option of doing a cake in the back of the book. I believe it is on page 42. It is a cake with flower blossoms on it. You use a cookie cutter to give you an imprint to outline and then you fill them in with stars. ![]()
