Okay, I'm having a brain freeze. It's been a while since I have covered a cake in fondant. Do you use a crusting buttercream or not.

TIA

i wouldn't use crusting, the reg. buttercream would help the fondant stay attached by remaining sticky.

I used crusting buttercream for mine...but it didnt love to stick to it....but since I wanted to get it super smooth it worked out fine...i just dampened the edge of the fondant a bit to get it to stick to the bottom edge...and upside (since no one in my family will eat fondant) when they peeled the fondant off, most of the icing was left on the cake!

Okay. If I use the crusted buttercream and put my fondant on it immediately (before it actually has time to crust) will it stick. I'm quite sure some of the guest will want to peel the fondant off and I like the idea of having most of the icing left on the cake.

I think it will be fine....even if it does crust...you can get the edges to stick by using a bit of vanilla or just water...
